THE PROBLEM

The Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Strategic Communication, Protocol and Engagement Branch needed to develop and implement policies and best practices aimed at better targeting and meeting the needs of multicultural audiences.

THE SOLUTION

Strategic marketing research consultancy, Bastion Insights, conducted foundational research into the information needs and communication preferences of multicultural audiences with a focus on Chinese, Indian, Greek, Syrian, Iraqi, Afghani and Ethiopian groups. The work consisted of a large scale qualitative component in-language, as well as a large-scale quantitative exploration including in-language questionnaires.

THE OUTCOME

This work led to DPC building a new multicultural communications unit, with our work around how to develop policies and communications strategies for these audiences now being socialised through all Victorian government departments.
